How Much Concrete Sealer Do I Need? Coverage Calculator & Guide

Most concrete sealer coverage problems come from buying too little. This guide walks you through exactly how much you need for a driveway, patio, pool deck or paver project — plus a product-size table so you can pick the right pack the first time.

The simple formula (concrete sealer per square foot)

For Nanoprotect applied as the recommended double coat (wet-on-wet): 1 gallon covers ~135 sq ft. Single coat coverage is up to 200 sq ft per gallon, but a single coat is not recommended if you want 36+ months of protection.

Quick math: gallons needed = square feet ÷ 135 (double coat) or square feet ÷ 200 (single coat). Round up. Need to skip the math? Use our coverage calculator — type in your square footage and it recommends the exact pack.

How much concrete sealer do I need for a driveway?

Measure length × width of your driveway in feet, then divide by 135 for a double coat. Typical driveways:

    • Single-car driveway (~300 sq ft) → 2.5 gallons (2× 1-gallon bottles or 1 concentrate)
    • Standard 2-car driveway (~600 sq ft) → 4.5 gallons (1× 5-gallon pail)
    • Long 2-car driveway (~900 sq ft) → 7 gallons (1× 5-gallon + 2× 1-gallon)
    • Large 3-car driveway (~1,200 sq ft) → 9 gallons (2× 5-gallon pails)

Full product details on the driveway sealer page, including application tips for sloped or cracked driveways.

How much concrete sealer do I need for a patio?

Most residential patios are 200–500 sq ft. For a double coat:

    • Small patio (~150 sq ft) → 1.2 gallons (1× 1-gallon + small surplus, or 1 concentrate)
    • Average patio (~300 sq ft) → 2.5 gallons (1 concentrate makes 3 gallons)
    • Large patio (~500 sq ft) → 4 gallons (1 concentrate + 1 gallon)

Stamped, broom-finished and exposed-aggregate patios all use the same coverage math. See the patio sealer page for surface-specific application notes.

How much concrete sealer do I need for pavers?

Pavers are more porous than poured concrete, so plan on the high end of the coverage range (closer to 120 sq ft per gallon on a double coat). Common paver projects:

    • Walkway (~100 sq ft) → 1 gallon ready-to-use
    • Paver patio (~400 sq ft) → 3.5 gallons (1 concentrate + 1 gallon)
    • Pool deck (~800 sq ft) → 6.5 gallons (1× 5-gallon + 2× 1-gallon)
    • Driveway pavers (~600 sq ft) → 5 gallons (1× 5-gallon pail)

Coverage tips that save money (and lap lines)

    1. Always round UP — porous concrete drinks more sealer than you think.
    2. Older or rougher concrete needs ~10–20% more than the table above.
    3. Buy a small extra so you can touch up high-wear spots later (driveway tire tracks, grill area).
    4. Apply the second coat wet-on-wet within 10 minutes of the first — never let coat 1 dry first.
    5. One 33.9 fl oz concentrate (makes 3 gallons) is almost always cheaper per sq ft than buying 1-gallon bottles.
